Does anybody here know about these mysterious SD70s? Also, I here quite alot about Conrail SD70s. Can you explain what they were and where they went? Thanks.[^][;)]
Conrail had two batches of SD70 series, each designed for the road that got them when Conrail was divided. CR 2557-2580 were straight SD70’s and went to NS with the same numbers. CR 4130-4144 were SD70MAC’s and became CSX 775-789.
CR also had thirty SD80MAC’s and they were divided proportionally to NS (7200 series) and CSX (800 series)
CSSHEGEWISCH is exactly correct. The Conrail SD70s went to Norfolk Southern and the Conrail SD70MACs (with the wide nose) went to CSX Transportation. NS owned Conrail engines are now either repainted in NS black and white or are still painted in Conrail with Black and White numbers on the side of the engine. CSX owned Conrail engines are now either repainted in CSX colors or are still painted in Conrail colors with yellow numbers on the side of the engine.
