trying to contact halfpricehobby.com, a MRR advertiser via email at service@halfpricehobby.com i dont seam to be able to get a reply - i am from Australia and Mum tells me its to expensive to call the USA, i am looking for there shipping prices to Us in Australia, anyone had any luck emailing them?

I’ve never dealt with them. Prefer others such as from Walther’s directly where you can get set up with a discount if you buy so much and then some others such as MB Klein at modeltrainstuff.com

I’ve bought from them before… They have a brick&mortar shop here in Massachusetts as well. They can be very slow to respond to email in my experience as well. Took a few emails once and threatening to cancel the order to get a response. I tolerated it for the low price, and may again, but it’s not a great way to get repeat business.
Here’s my advice in these situations. Put a price on your leisure time. You can use the hourly rate that you actually get paid, or something different. This allows you to say, for example, I’d rather spend an extra $10 bucks on something than spend hours chasing a sales person (or waiting days for a reply).
In my experience, companies that don’t reply promptly aren’t worth doing business with. Likewise, companies with really low advertised prices and really high shipping and handling costs just aren’t worth it.
For me, saving a couple of dollars isn’t worth the hassle.
[And, FWIW, just because a store calls itself “Half Price Hobby” doesn’t mean it really sells everything at half price.] Edit: on further review, that sounds snotty; which wasn’t my intention. What I meant to suggest is that there are lots of dealers on the Web who will give good discounts off of MSRP, and it’s probably worth investigating some of them.
No experience, but it might be another factor – some businesses prefer to not serve international customers. I actually have found on ebay it adds customers myself for what little I do there, but some people think it’s more complicated than it is nowadays.
Of course, if that is the issue here, it would be polite to reply with a note to that effect. Otherwise it gives us Americans a poor image, doesn’t it?

If I may ask, what item are you exactly looking for at Half Price Hobby? Is it something unique that only they have? If it is not unique, you might be able to find it at other, possibly more responsive, vendors, for example at www.modeltrainstuff.com .
Actually age has nothing to do with it…
I’m 64 and look for the best prices since I hate paying full price on large or medium size orders.
