Control stands

I’ve seen a few photos of model railroaders who use real locomotive control stands to operate their layouts. I’m guessing that locating and buying a used control stand might be a difficult and expensive proposition. Any one know where I might get scale drawings or detailed enough photos to make a reasonable facsimilie? Any one have any ideas for making one?

I seem to recall an article on building a control stand (probably many years ago in MR). I made a quick search of the magazine index and couldn’t find anything. What I remember is wooden top, bottom and intermediate spacers with a sheet metal wrapper. Marnold lever-style rheostat.
Perhaps someone else can be more specific.

Model Railroader built both diesel and steam style controllers for their Great South Pass railroad (late 50s, early 60s). There may have been another few since.

Thanks guys! I’ll see if I can hunt the article down. Plans specifically for use on a model railroad would be ideal!
