I’ve never seen covered hoppers with those inverted V shaped covers over the hatches. Does anyone know what they are for?
The covers on top of the covered hoppers are only used for Coors Brewery intra yard moves from the east end elevator to the Golden Brewery (about 2-miles west). Here’s view at the loading elevator Saturday, 15 February 2025.
This is really interesting please if you have more keep them coming. thanks
Chuck
Loving the pictures, COZephyr1. Not just the trains, but the scenery. The different colours of the grass. The river with the debris. The footboards in the tracks. All wanting to be modelled.

Are the cars captive to Coors trackage?
Yes, those CORX covered hoppers with inverted covers only moved within the Coors trackage at Golden, CO. (Molson-Coors Brewery complex)
Right in the middle of all that brewing and railroading activity sits the Coors Family Mansion.

Here is a closeup from Google Images:
Some years ago, I knew a guy who was modeling the Coors brewery. I scratch built a model of the Coors Family Mansion for him. It was not an exact replica, but I believe that it had the look and feel of the actual mansion.
In the picture of the six hopper shove, what are the two posts (upright) that have right angle extentions of the posts (horizontal, but with high clearace over train) ? Too the one on the left seems to have a brown short piece hanging (parallel to the horizional post)…what’s dat? endmrw0323252234
Those posts look like they used to have telltales on them – I suspect that the brown bar that appears to be suspended by one pin at its center was a hanger.
You are correct - tell tales from long ago.
That looks pretty close. It’s unfortunate that the mansion isn’t and never was part of the brewery tour. My classmates and I did the “short” version almost daily in undergrad…one perk of going to Colorado School of Mines. It even used to be free
If you are ever in Golden, the Coors yards and the BNSF (former C&S) yard are easily viewable from 44th Ave and the Clear Creek bike path. There is usually decent activity during the day - @COZephyr1 would likely know the typical activities way better than I. You can combo it with the Colorado Railroad Museum at the east end of the Coors complex and easily make a day of it.
Don’t forget about a visit to the Coors Mansion.

Unfortunately, the mansion isn’t accesible for tours, as far as I know. I am not sure if they still do this, but they used to grow the carnations used in the tasting room for the brewery tour in the mansion greenhouse. That was 15 years ago though.
I checked. You are correct.
