I’m getting ready to spray paint my brass CSS&SB passenger cars and would like to know the correct orange and maroon colors for the body. Also what are the correct colors for the roof and undercarriage and trucks? Thanks for any help you can give.
I don’t know if this is any help or not, or if you already have these pics, but I thought I would post this link anyhow… http://www.trainweb.org/passengercars/Indices/C8.htm .
Stripe above the windows is maroon. The orange is…traction orange. The roof is black or grey prolly depending on the car. Underbody black, or maybe grey sometimes.
this may help get a close color of orange

I’m doing south shore also here, what are you doing?
I don’t know if this will be any help but, given the similarity between the SS and Milw paint schemes, it might. According to Kalmbach’s “Pullman Paint And Lettering Notebook”, Lehigh Valley Red is dead on for both LV red and Milw maroon, it would probably do for SS unless somebody can came up w/ a better color.
Thanks, Jim, I really appreciate your help.

When did the CSS&SB have passenger cars? Did you mispeak and really mean the sel propelled commuter cars? The last paint scheme had a silver roof. You won’t be far off using Milwaukee Road colors as a starting point.
Thanks, dinwitty, for all the suggestions. I’m incorporating the CSS&SB into my overall layout which features South Bend and Lafayette, IN. Will have a catenary next to my NYC line.
Thanks, Smitty.
I mispoke, they were of course self propelled commuter cars.
