Corwith Yard

Does anyone know where you can get a good view of some of the action in at corwith? I went there three weeks ago and I guess we were to close to BNSF property and the Police came and told us we had to leave the (Area) We asked if we could stay on the public street and watch traffic go across the bridge that went over the road we were on and we were told absolutly not! The cop mentioned that this was because of what happend on 9/11. What a shame… Thanks Dillon

It sounds like another case of “law” being made up on the spot.

When it occurs, you have little choice but to comply, but a subsequent complaint to the police chief or mayor might be in order.

Welcome BNSFreak!

Their are realy no good locations to see what is going on at Corwith without being in the yard, I am in and out of that yard quite often the only place that would give you some look into the yard would be an appartment complex just East of corwith tower on the north end of the yard.

If you take 38th St. about 4 blocks west from Kedzie, you’ll pass under the north lead into/out of Corwith. You can see some action from the public road there.

Also, you can see some of the shops area from 41st St, about a block east of Pulaski.

About a month ago I wanted a photo of the tower at Corwith Yard and the CN. I went to Kedzie and then west on 38th street. Just before the railroad overpass there is a warehouse on the northside of 38th. I drove around the back and was able to take a couple of pictures of the tower (and two train movements). I talked to a man who worked in the warehouse (carpet company perhaps) and told him what I was doing.

Doubt if you could stay there all day, but during a short time, particularly in the early morning you would get good shots.

Just last week I went on west 43rd Street off of Pulaski. I have a customer back there by the Corwith Yard area. You could take shots of the engine facility from there.

good luck/be safe.
