One night, many years ago, the Old Dog was driven by a scrape yard.
In the yard was a RDC car that was burning from end to end. Flames were shooting ten to fifteen feet from every possible openning.
The Dog’s assumption is that the car had been soaked in gasoline/fuel oil was being burnt out to get rid of the combustable components prior to be cut up for scrape.
Can anybody thing of a safe that such a scene could be modeled.

Hmm, the old orange/red/yellow lights flashing on the thin strips of tinfoil being fluttered by a small fan trick?
The Old Dog just realized a possible method.
Get a ventless gas fire place. Replace the “logs”. Put it in the train room wall. Since we are talking a night scene, stove black should be able to cover the areas one does not want visible. The catch is that this would probably work better in a large scale such as G.

some smoke units…
for photography, cotton was used on steamers as smoke.
find some mini orange lights and use an electronic circuit to flicker the lights.
Christmas tree lights often have a controller to do a variety of effects.
Painting some cotton stuffing it inside with lights blinking away red/yellow might do something.
Sad to hear an RDC getting the scrapper.
In the words of Mick Jagger…
“…if you play with fire you might get burned…”
