Hi all!
I’m returning to N scale modeling and I’m doing some research for my stock purchases and ran into question:
Atlas has their AccuMate coupling system and others have the Rapido coupler. Kato has its own. There is also the Kadee coupler. My question is: are the Atlas, Kadee and Kato couplers compatible? Forget the Rapido, because those will be swapped in a heartbeat for either the Atlas or Kadee. [:)]
Thanks for your help!

The Kadees haeve long since become Micro Trains. The Micro Trains and the Accumates will work together. I have no idea how well the Katos work with either of them.
Nice to hear you are returning to N scale. If you are starting from scratch, it is best you standardize your coupling system by using MicroTrain knuckle couplers. Accumates and Kato couplers are compatible with MT but they are not that good. Accumate couplers tend to uncouple or break away with long trains especially on gradients. I have progressively converted all the rapido couplers to MT and have almost zero derailments or coupling related problems.
Cheers,
Cliff
