If I were to attach a coupler directly to the base of a carriage rather than to a swiveling truck would it still be able to couple with other cars?
Thanks
Scott
trainmaster1989, Yes, This is known as a body mounted coupler. Take care to mount or shim the coupler as required to align with your other couplers. Please take note the space between the cars will have a more realistic appearence but tight track curves might present a derailing problem.
I myself have not done this yet but I picked up the info somewhere on this forum.
Scott,
body-mounted couplers are much more accurate and are proptotypical but because of the very small track curve radii a lot of us use you will find that on some equipment the end overhang of the car will cause derailments. If you are running 8ft or bigger radius, no problem, but if much smaller than that you’ll be restricted to short cars or truck-mount couplers.
