I recently visited Austria and there I bought a Fleishmann N Scale Steam engine and several freight and passengers cars from several manufacturers (Rocco , Trix, etc., 16 in total) All have what they call the “Standard NEM 362 coupling socket”. Once back I made my layout and decided to run 2 trains at the same time, so after shopping around for a while I found that european trains here are very expensive and there are only a few places where you can buy them, so I decided to go American and bought an Atlas diesel engine with the corresponding rolling stock (about 15 cars) . These come with with the AccuMate® couplers. Is there a posibility that I could change the couplers on one or both of the systems so that all are compatible?
kadee make a group of couplers that fit into NEM coupler boxes but have standard kadee knuckles on the ends. they are available with 4 different lengths of shanks. i think they #716-720
See: http://www.kadee.com/htmbord/page24.htm the ones you want are #17 thru #20. I would suggest getting one set of each, and then test fitting them to your cars to determine which works best for each car. This is not a one size fits all deal, then you can go back to your LHS and get the ones you need. I would start with #18 or #19.
Please note that Neil’s information is not correct. #716 and #717 are HOn3 trucks, and there are no #718 - 729.
