Having grown up within 1/4 mile or less from the Southern Pacific tracks in San Gabriel Valley near Bassette, and a feedlot, I plan such on my layout. I like cows and steak, hamburger, etc. and cattlecars.
Saw some HO scale cattlecars with sounds in the new MRR, wondered about sound chips, boxes that would give me moos, etc. and could be set up for that at the location. Idling F7A/B and horn sounds would work too.
Herefords are my fav, living in Arizona a while, but still like seeing the cows here in Illinois as well, the smell takes me back to simple times, and following cattle trucks on my motorcycle in 63-65 down the highway on a cold desert night. I still like seeing modern cattle trucks and what load they have, empty when I see them here, sometimes here it’s pigs!
There is probably a place for chicken and rooster sounds too, there were a few “Chicken Ranch’s” on the same area, and feed stores for same.
I grew up on a farm myself. Milking type cows. Something about the smell of fresh cut hay and of course the odorific qualities of cow manure that brings back many memories.

Me two LOL. Hot sweaty summers putting up hay, chipping frozen manure with a pick so the barn doors could be opened. Getting up at 5 am and wading in 5 foot drifts to milk cows, pulling breech calf at 3am in an old airy barn with it 20 below and 30 mph wind. Falling asleep on the tractor at 4 am plowing. Yep, lots of great memories. [}:)] Fred
Fred - We kept our cows in the barn during the winter so that was nice. Of course I had a butt-load more manure to fork everyday. I hated to wake up to rain in the summer because that meant the cows were hunkered down under the trees which was about five miles from the barn. Many a 4am tractor drive in the rain to get them home. But I think there are some good memories back there somewhere. [:D] Hey it was hard work but it sure teaches you to be self sufficient. And you get a great Tan in the summer (from the elbows down anyway).
