CP intermodal loco's

May not be uptodate news but on my way to work today saw - eastbound CP intermodal with 1 AC4400 on the head end and 1 on the tail end passing Albion BC. just out of Vancouver.Have seen coal trains this way but this a first for intermodal – how far east to they go like this?? – Answers please !

I would guess not much farther than Field cause it’s downhill all the way to Montreal from there.

I’ve never seen it, and i’m from montreal-

Mind yuou… i don’t exaclty look for these things,

but i’ll keep an eye out for the next 6 months and ket you know if i ever see anyhting like this

truely odd, I must say-

CP is going crazy with the One-Unit-on-either-end.

They do it on 99% of their coal trains and have found it to be very efficient.

It’s much easier to put one on either end than to splice a helper into the middle.

Can’t answer how far east they go like this, but it’s starting to be very common here in the lowermainland.

It’s also quicker to pump air because you can do it from both ends at the same time.

Update – have seen this arrangement twice this week – but only on CP trains coming from Pitt Meadows intermodal yard – those coming from Deltaport appear to have two of them on the head end as a rule . Anyone seen the single loco trains east of Calgary ?

yes seen many Calgary to Medicine Hat,Calgary to Edmonton,Calgary to Lethbridge.
I have seen many in Saskatchewan & Manitoba also.
