An unusual offering, a CPR Hudson Locomotive paired with a CNR Vandrbilt Tender.
Price a bit high, nice locomotive, the CPR Hudson actually looks good with the Vanderbilt tender
Since CPR ran their Royal Canadian Steam passenger excursion with the 2816 Hudson engine the interest in the HO CPR Hudsons seems to have increased significantly. A lot of people do get the two Hudson engines mixed up and think it is a Royal Hudson.
I read a posting on one of the steam boards a while ago and it appears the new board at CPR does not have the enthusiasm for keepint steam alive as the old board did. The passenger excursions are now being pulled by a pair of EMD F units which have been overhauled and painted in the Tuscan and gray passenger paint scheme. The heavyweight coaches, which were also completely overhauled look quite handsome, shame the 2816 was replaced though.
If I win the next lottery I would book a trip on it. The train runs from Calgary and it does a loop going south to Ft. McLoed and a day trip Waterton Lakes(Glacier Park) then West to Cranbrook running through the Crows Nest and then North to Golden where the train runs throught the Lakes areas and then East to Banff running along the Kickinghorse river, then finally the last leg back to Calgary.
Just thinking about it has me wondering if I should not treat myself. Would have prefered the steam engine but even the F units have a nastalgic bearing of their own.
