A westbound freight (401 or 403, IIRC) derailed monday as it took the siding. I was passing by Tuesday morning and decided to take a look. Couldn’t get close enough to take any detail shots, but here’s a tele down the tracks:

Well, even this is informative and interesting enough - thanks for sharing !
I note that your photo made it past the RailPictures.net screeners. I was going to make some sarcastic remark about vehicle clutter in the foreground, etc., but no - they’re properly off to the side. It’s only the people, and they’re OK - they actually add to the story. Good direct lighting, nicely cropped (although I personally would like to see the switch to the right and a little bit more on the left), good background -dark and dull, so the brightly lit equipment in the foreground really pops ! (not distracting or interfering too much), etc. So it’s a pretty good example of an unusual photo that can make it past them.

Thanks again.

Good job on the photo. Better than I saw on either the Global or CTV web sites. They were more obsessed with the evacuation of the nearby hotels than in getting shots of the derailment. Since this is a train site I didn’t bother posting links to their websites. The evacuations were brief.
