Hey all
How have you simulated dirt roads on your layout? I am specifically looking to simulate Georgia Red Clay dirt roads.
Any thoughts?

On my last layout, I took drywall joint compound, spread it as you would filling the joints on a wall. thickness is up to you. let it dry some, not completely, take a car that you dont care for that much, drive it along the road to create ruts and marks. let it dry after that, then paint it to your desired color. while its still wet, you can sprinkle in some actual dirt provided its the color you wanted.
Thats what I did and I thought it came out pretty good. I dont have any pics with me, if i did, I would post them.

Trying looking at Zip texturing. There have been many articles and several DVDs on it. You can control the color as you wish powdered tempera paints

Look into tile grout. It comes in all different colors so you should be able to find something to simulate what you are looking for.
