City and Railroad join to get scooters

Bay City police joined with Union Pacific Railroad officers last week to crack down on drivers who illegally scoot through railroad crossings – to the chagrin of some who quickly circulated an e-mail warning to friends speculating that the new interim police chief was to blame for their inconvenience.

“The interim chief is Jack Williams, retired from Victoria PD.

I guess we best be alert!” said one comment, according to the e-mail.

The sweep was made Wednesday, Jan. 31, just two days after Williams came on board as an interim chief following the resignation of the city’s former police chief, Mike Baker.

“Union Pacific contacted the police department three weeks ago to coordinate the program,” Williams said.

They just did one of those out here on Phoenix. The UP had city officers riding along with the crews and had motorcycles officers along the route, to nab the morons who ignored the signals. They handed out quite a few tickets. Need to do it more though.

It’s amusing that one could take from the “emails circulated among friends” that those friends consider running the gates their priviledge and the cops are denying them said priviledge. It now becomes a game - any cops around? OK, I can run the gates!
