Crossing Gate Problem

I have a set of Lionel crossing gates 6-14098 that have worked fine for 4 years but have suddendly stopped going back up once the train passes the pressure switch. Despite adjusting the switch the gates stay down and flash. Can anyone give me some insight as to what causes the problem? Does it mean the motor(s) are shot or some other part needs replacing?

Any help would be appreciated.

John

With the gate active as with a pass by, and the lights blinking etc. remove the ground, neutral or whatever, and see if it stops.

If two units work or don’t work simetanously, go to the common point, like the switch. It would seem the relase is not working. If weak once adjusted, it may just fail again.

Thanks Jim.

When the ground is disconnected the lights stop flashing but the gates stay down. When plugged back in they flash and stay down.

What is the release you refer to? The insides seem rather simple with a motor and some kind of resister (???) between the two wires.

Since I know nothing about electronics it probably is best to just spend $77.00 for a new set.
