Crude oil train on CSX through Knoxville, TN

How many oil unit trains pass though Knoxville, TN, daily, weekly? In west Knoxville where my wife and I live the is a high concentration of families. I am concerned about the speed at which the oil trains enter Knoxville from the west. Are there max. speed limits oil trains must adhere to? This area contains a high concentration of S curves both right and left. The only good thing at their present speed is they pass the neighborhood quickly. Thanks for your time.

Highly doubtful that you are seeing Crude Oil trains through Knoxville. Almost certainly they are Ethanol trains. The refinery north of Mobile is the only one in the Southeastern States and it receives Oil via BNSF.

As someone whose also a resident of West Knoxville and lives really really close to the KD Sub, it’s probably what Beau said. There’s a lot of grain traffic going through Knxville and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of it is heading for an Ethonal plant.

Thanks for the info. How can one get more info in CSX through Knox. TN. I’ve be a rail fan since I was kid back in central Wisconsin watching the old Soo Line. My dad went to school with a bunch of the engineers, conductors and yard workers. I even got to move the yard switcher by myself and kick a few boxcars. Went to the yard every Sunday after church. Still go by there when I go home to WI to visit relatives. Thanks
