I know Florence,SC is a big one for Amtrak’s P052 and 53. Pretty much there could always be a crew change spot somewhere as long a crew van can get there.

I think BaltACD would agree with me on this, but there is a difference between a crew change point and a recrew point. Crew change points are usually terminals or stations where trains are planned to stop to change crews. A recrew point would be like Inch53’s example at Cline Orchard Road. We definitely do not plan on Cline Orchard being a crew change point, but on occasion a crew will outlaw at that point and we’ll have to recrew the train as it sits. Even Effingham, IL is not a crew change point; it’s a good place to recrew a train as we have 10 miles of double main line with several cross overs, but we by no means plan on changing crews there. Hope this helps in differentiating between the two terms. Feel free to ask questions.

Spartanburg, SC is also a crew change point- the end of the old Clinchfield line.

Right! Crew changes are locations where crews go to work or tie up – it’s where they get paid to and from. Recrew points are anywhere and mean nothing, except to some poor trainmaster on the morning conference call, taken to task for the number of dogcatch crews.
