[(-D] I’m certainly not offended. I am, however, having a hard time hitting a moving target. ConRail can be said to have been and done a lot of things. You could say, that it fixed a lot of problems the northeast railroads had. You can say it paired down those railroads to a workable size. You can say it saved a lot of jobs, and a lot of rail lines from extinction. You can say that it had a far-reaching effect on the rest of the American railroad system as well. But, when you suggest that it was an overall money-making proposition for the U.S. Government, you’re giving it credit for something that did not happen. That’s how I see the big picture.
If it was such a great profit maker if it saved so many jobs if it was such a great deal it would be in buisness today. it would not have had been torn apart by the other railroads to be givin new life and made a profit, saved a economy and a life style of that area. In other words it still would be a functioning railroad if it was as you say. but it was not it was dying and until other company bought it and did with it as they pleased take the blinders off and look, csx is a profitable railroad and so is the ns. also in most cases most of the things your going to read are not gong to say anything bad about what your reading as they want to boast about how great they were no how they failed or what the did wrong just how they came out of the fires of hell and survived. someone bring in the dead horse and let awsome stand and beat it…
