Video on CBS News shows the truck moving onto the railroad without stopping.
Our Baltimore paper reported that the crossing in question didn’t have lights, bells or gates. I guess not because it’s a private crossing with a stop sign and crossbucks and the surveillance video clearly shows that the truck did not stop. In all my many years of driving have I seen similar situations Even at crossings where the gates were down I have seen drivers go around them. Yet the press seems to somehow blame the railroads most of the time. Ridiculous!

BE honest: If the engineer throws the train in emergency,
most likely it will jack knife and wreck.
If one slows as much as possible, tries to bounce the truck
off the tracks and someone gets hurt-one will be faulted for
not putting the train in emergency.

Let’s be honest: if the engineer throws the train in emergency,
most likely it will jack knife and wreck-which is what happened.
If he/she slows as much as possible, tries to bounce the truck off the track and not wreck-he/she will get blamed for not putting it in emergency-especially if someone gets hurt.
It’s a no win situation.

It’s interesting that Jeffery whines on and on about railroads and a waste of money in the same sentance but when there is a wreck caused by a fellow truck driver he is strangely silent.
