CSX Intermodal Ramp in Jacksonville FLA ?

Can anyone tell me about how many trains a day at the Jacksonville ramp , I am looking into transferring down there and would like an idea of the number of trains . I know it won’t be as busy as we are here at Joliet LPCHI .

I am getting tired of the winter that never stops , inspecting an inbound train in a snowstorm and -30 degree wind chills loses it’s appeal after you do it a few times .

Two trains each way each day on the I-95 corridor.

Two Trains each way each day to Chicago

A train each way a day to Orlando/Tampa

A train each way a day to New Orleans

A train each way a day to Cincinnati

During Peak Season there are more.

Thanks , this helps a lot . It was kind of what I expected Definetly enough to keep busy .

FEC’s intermodal operations are equally as if not more impressive as CSX’s in Jacksonville as well as Fort Lauderdale and Miami. FEC certainly owns the intermodal market here in Florida through it’s partnership with NS. Something you might want to consider.

You may want to take a long hard look at the furlough roster for Jacksonville. The southeast portion of CSX has laid off a considerable amount of workers over the past 7-8 months. Your seniority wont follow you either. You will be at the bottom of the seniority roster AGAIN. Even when you ask for a transfer as a Car man.

Look at all of the territories that are available. Right now New Orleans is in dire need of Crews and Car Knockers (CAR MEN) but you will also start at the bottom of the Seniority Roster.

Good Luck

Here’s the current list of the Q100-series trains in/out of the Jax ramp. It can get hectic down there at times if outbounds are running behind, causing inbounds to hold outside of town until there’s space for them. You might also want to check out the Hulsey and Fairburn intermodal ramps in Atlanta. The Fairburn yard is set to start handling increased traffic from the proposed BNSF run-throughs, so you might have a better chance finding a job there.

I work for a contractor that just took over the CSX ramp in Jacksonville and if I can workout the transfer my seniority stays the same .

I looked at Atlanta but right now we are fully staffed . thanks for the list of trains that helps alot . I know here at LPCHI it can get crazy here especially when we get Chicago trains because Chicago is too busy .

Just for info: If you move to Jacksonville, you can burn your snow shovel, snow boots, etc., although very seldom you may have sleet or freezing rain. My hometown is +/- 140 miles north of there, and the last time snow covered the ground there was 1989. Don’t throw away your heavy coats and gloves - it does get cold (teens at night) during the winters. The typical pattern is rain/cold/3 to 7 day warming trend to 60’s/rain/cold/repeat.

If you go to Atlanta you may want to keep the snow tools. You won’t get much snow, but usually they have an ice storm or two per winter. At least one of the regulars on the board lives north of Atlanta and could give you a better idea of the weather than me.

Burning my snow shovel sounds good , it is snowing again right now as I type , and they are saying we are in for another snow storm Monday .

I don’t mine hanging on to my cold weather gear , teens are still better than -0 temps and colder windchills . I won’t know anything for a couple of weeks but I hope to move by spring .
