You can bet there wont be any stories on efforts to enhance safety. But I do have a question, is the present or potential shipments of crude the first hazmat loads ever through Albany? No trucks of hazmat ever through town? Sure, a unit train of crude is dangerous and not to be treated cavalierly, but I would bet those local residents have been under threat for decades now…
Three or four weeks ago CBS Evening News ran a story about crude oil trains and proximity of rail yards to homes in the Albany area. It included comments from residents “fearful” of the consequences of an accident, or accidents. Could we get CBS to do a follow-up illustrating efforts by rail companies to promote safety, to train and assist first responders, etc.?

There’s no hint from where in Ca. you’ve lived or are writing from, or if you’ve been around 50 years or more…back then a TV outlet brought in an afternoon news crew that changed the content, or at least the accentuation, to violent crimes, bloody accidents, and sexual outrages.
The San Francisco ABC Network powerhouse used the designation KGO, Ch. 7, which from then we knew meant
Kickers,
Guts,
and Orgasms.
Changed the face of TV local news. “If it Bleeds, It Leads.”
Yessir!..
Great idea Mr. Keller except for one problem: the media’s mantra “if it bleeds, it leads”. They don’t care about the safety aspect, just the unfortunate aftermath of a derailment/collision.
