CTC Board Magazine??

Does anyone else out there subscribe to CTC Board magazine (besides me) and what in the world is going on with them? Is it the beginning of the end?
They are a month behind and I haven’t seen this months yet?
Just wondering if it was a personal thing they have against me.

I got my July issue on August 24th. I expect the September issue around Sept. 24th.
Their website still has the July issue.

That magazine is being hurt by forums like this one.

I think when they changed thier format it hurt them more then they thought it would.

Well there you go, a perfect example fo opening mouth and inserting foot. It came today!!

I don’t subscribe, I buy mine at the hobby shop and it wasn’t there yet when I went in saturday. I am dissapointed they droped the news, I think it was a bad move on there part but I understand why they did it. Yes there is a lot of rail news on the internet. The problem is that the news for the most part is the junk I couldn’t care less about, grade crossing accidents and whistle bans and the like. I want to know the kind of stuff I used to read in Flemsies like what track work is going on, and what rolling stock is being aquired and abandoned. These days I can read 10 times as much news and only get 1/2 out of it. I really miss the quality the news was before the internet. It might have taken a few more weeks to get the scoop, but at least I knew what was going on in the places I kept up on.

I totally agree with you. They did just a big up job as far as the track work and reroutes, etc, etcTrains only does that every now and then. I also liked the way they segregrated the news by carrier. uote]Originally posted by chad thomas

I don’t subscribe to CTC Board, but pick up a copy at a LHS from time to time.I was very disapointed when they dropped thier news section. I hope they will reconsider.Does anyone else remember when they were a news magazine printed on stiff paper, and the pages weren’t even stapled together?

Can’t say i do. I started buying CTC Board in the mid-late 80’s. My uncle turned me on to it and Pacific Rail News about the same time. It’s a shame it evolved from a good news pub to a train picture book.

I have issue # 108 from June 1984 which was the first 48 page issue. I do not have any of the first 107 issues. I don’t believe readership ever passed 8,000 while trains is somewhere over 110,000.

I used to buy it. Later on I didn’t bother. Even the news sections were n’t that complete. KCS news never seemed to really have much of a place at all and some of the other areas only touched the surface of the news. I won’t bother with it anymore as I can see trains anytime. I don’t need to pay up for pretty pictures.

When they changed formats and dropped the news, I sent them a polite E-Mail asking them to please reconsider, since most of us had appreciated their ability to separate the news “wheat” from the rumor “chaff” and distilling it down to a useable form for those of us who have a life and can’t spend every waking moment on the web. Since they haven’t been willing to bother to even answer my E-Mail with even so much as a “form letter” E-Mail reply and/or acknowledgement, I have concluded that they can well do without my business; therefore, I have stopped all of my purchases of CTC Board for both myself, my friends, and my other railfan family members.

I to sent them an e-mail about not liking their changes. I found out they cancelled the news right after I sent in my renewal for 2 years. I’ve been a subscriber to CTC Board scense the early 90"s. I did tell them about renewing and they did not charge it to my visa. But I did not get any return e-mail. Just noticed that they didn’t charge it. Trains has always been just fine. Except when I get a renewal notice from some other company than Kalmbach Publishing.[:(!]
