Maybe I missed some discussion on this somewhere, but is CTC Board mag still in existence? The website is now defunct, and the latest issue you can order from Hundman is May '06. If so, then it’s a shame as that was once a great magazine for news and photos!
I have the June 06 issue – cover story is about the Wisconsin & Southern. I have not seen a more recent issue than that. In it they announce this year’s photo contest which by the way is for photos taken this Saturday, October 7th.
Hundman sold CTC Board Magazine, to White River Productions (Kevin EuDaley). First new issue is due out before the end of this month, it will be called the November 2006 issue and subscriptions will be adjusted and honored.
It was a great magazine which combined absolutely stunning photography with good head end stuff.
The “news” was an interesting collection which I miss. One could say the internet has replaced that section, but still it was nice to get all of the info in one place.
I ordered some old TRP magazines and might subscribe to those. They havent arrived yet, but I do have a couple that I purchased that seem to be interesting. Hopefully today they will arrive.
Trains magazine is great, but sometimes the artsy side of me wants to look at pictures.
CTC Board was one of the first mags I subscribed to. It used to be a great mag with excellent nuts and bold news items. Now it is just a pretty picture mag. Sad.
Kevin EuDaly (White River Productions) announced yesterday (Oct 4th) on the Observation Car Yahoo group that Paul Schneider and Mr. EuDaly have “divergent views” on the magazine’s focus, and Mr. Schneider is no longer the editor. The name has been changed to Railroads Illustrated.
I used to pick up CTC Board regularly and even gave it a chance to prove itself when they changed their format. I missed the news section too much and the level of writing in the articles that accompanied the photographs became less informative. Consequently, I stopped buying it. I’ll have to wait and see what direction the new publisher takes the magazine.
Not knowing how frequently Railroads Illustrated will be published, I’ll bet there still won’t be a news section due to all the railfan forums and other sources of up-to-the-minute rail news on the internet. I believe Kevin EuDaly will take the magazine in the right direction but it may take several issues of “tweaking” to get it right. He’s also reviving Passenger Train Journal.
Thanks for all the info! Here’s proof that some people believe in the old federal govt motto: “If it ain’t broke, fix it 'til it is.” If they brought it back exactly as it originally was, I would consider buying a copy. As for the news section, sure you can read all this stuff on the internet, but you’d have to be a member of dozens of different email lists/forums to get all the information that CTC Board put onto a few pages. Nothing like having all that news “at your fingertips.”
First, I’ll second what anb740 said about news at your fingertips…
Is this Kevin Eudaly from White River Publications the same Kevin Eudaly who is the editor for the Northwestern Lines?? If it is, then there might be a good chance of having a news section returned to the magazine. The Northwestern Lines has a very good news section.
Yes, that’s the same Kevin EuDaly. I’ve known him since he was a teenager (not all that long ago!), and his brother Lon and dad (Dr. Jim), too. His magazine may not be what everybody here would like to see, but it will be good!
