Does anyone know the history of the Cumberland Valley Railroad tender that is at the Strasburg Railroad? A picture of it and the engine are here: http://d_cathell.tripod.com/stra2.html.
It says the pair is Canadian, but I don’t know if this is true. Any help would be appreciated.
I can’t find it but I remember reading that locomotive was brought to Strasburg and was to be rebuilt by them for a customer. The customer ran out of money and now Strasburg owns it but with the other trains they have they don’t plan a re-build anytime soon.
It’s the tender to ex-Canadian Pacific 4-6-0 972. The “Cumberland Valley” paint dates back to a main-line excursion sometime around 1985, as I recall, over part of the former CVRR (then Conrail). As stated by the others, the loco is basically considered Strasburg property now, after languishing for repairs for the former owner (who operated this and another CP 4-6-0 at nearby Jim Thorpe, Pa.). Expect restoration/rebuild to operation sometime in the next fifty to one hundred years. (Sorry, not a joke.)
