This seems like a good idea and I was curious if others have tried this or if n-scale is going to be difficult to do because of how big (or small) each brick would (or should) be.
If there are other ideas I’d like to hear them. I do not want to use plaster or the like to create the portals and I’ve searched/read many a thread reagarding this technique but I don’t do plaster (lol).
I was thinking about using styrene or similar products, maybe even basewood painted to look like concrete (I am going for a concrete look, like the WS concrete / brick portals).
As an N scaler myself, so I understand your dilema. You mentioned that the WS portals don’t fit? It would help if you could give us more information as to what you’re looking for.
I’m sure the resources available here could come up with some constructive suggestions for you.
I’ve had to modify two WS single portals to make a double tunnel entry by cutting the edges to get the opennings closer together. I used a razor saw to make the rough cuts and fine tuned them with a file. This might work for you.
I have also carved tunnel portals out of a piece of sheetrock. Draw the rock/blocks on one side and cut throuh the paper into the plaster. then pick/peel off the paper, regrove the rock/block lines.
I have modified Plaster portals for curved track where they need to be wider for clearance. If you take 2 portals and cut them just off center, when spliced back together you adjust the width needed by the amount beyond centerline.
This WS (HO), was cut/spliced to add 1/2" in width. It can only be seen by the wider keystone, stone was reshaped to hide the seam. Wing walls are castins by Motrak Models
