We have 56 degrees here in Sioux Falls, and the humidity here is sitting at 80%. It’s supposed to warm up to about 78 here this afternoon, not too bad. It was quite hot and mugly here on Sunday afternoon when I walked home from my job at Wendy’s. It’s only a 20-minute walk for me at the most, but I had beads of sweat running into my eyes…it was that bad. The weather here yesterday was a lot more comfortable. It sure is dry here though, people’s yards here in Sioux Falls are turning brown, and I can’t remember when we last had a good rain. I kind of feel sorry for the couple who do my yard, it’s got to be awful doing yard work in 90 degree + heat.
Morning all. The weather is great today. Air temp is 68 and humidity is around 40% with a light breeze. Of course, now I have to go to work instead of enjoying it…[soapbox]…but such is life and I can deal with it.
For those that didn’t read my previous post, I finally got to see one of ‘The Duo’ of CNW -9s in Adams yesterday. I have not been that excited to see a CNW engine since I saw the 1385 steamer back in the late 80s. So I’m a happy camper for a while. I doubt if much could get me upset for the rest of the week! [8D]
Misty, my fiancee, was very patient with me yesterday. She came home to find me not home, then I came home later than I said I ‘might’ be…hehe…I’m pretty lucky to have her!
BNSF blew-up a coal train near us Sunday night. 33 cars derailed at Hyannis, NE - east of Alliance. All the coal trains detouring over the single track line we are working on making 2MT.
The heat has been nuts and the weatherliar here is off by 8-10 degrees (too low)…Is it me, or is the local ABC affilliate here in need of a CALL-SIGN name change? …KDUH? [(-D][(-D][(-D]
Still trying to mix SPF-80 sunblock & Frost gatorade.
Well, Omaha got down to 55 degrees last night and our high today is only going to be in the lower 80s. Now that’s nice! There could even be some rain coming for late tonight and tomorrow morning. I’m not so sure about that, though.

I don’t really have any other newsworthy items this morning, so I’m off. TTFN.
Poor chicken. Read Willy’s post and then give more consideration to coming to nice, quiet, cool Lincoln. And we haven’t had a derailment in probably 3 weeks now!

Mookie-the UP train that I saw the CNW unit on yesterday went over some of the scariest tracks I’ve seen. I swear the cars were swaying 2-3’ from centerline either direction! When one would go left and it’s neighbor right I thought it would derail. Not good for me as I wasn’t too far from the tracks.
Lunch is now on the warmer bar/cooler bar: LC’s request of Texas Hots, coneys, fries, onion rings; and Ed’s request of sliced avocadoes and pecan pie and watermelon for dessert.
BTW, we didn’t get the T-storms that they were predicting this morning. Just some more light rain, and now the sun is shining, and there’s a very nice breeze outside. Our high later on this afternoon, early evening: about 83 or 84 degrees. I can live with that today!!
Dan - we watched our coal trains leave town on track like that. It scared me to death. We were ready to put out markers to see how far they would sway.
They poked around a little on it, but never really did much for it. Then they put 4 full coal gons on the ground and after a whole lot of work and cleanup, they don’t sway any more! [^]
I did notice on the ROW next to all of the tracks I was near that there were new sections of CWR and ties/plates/spikes. I hope it gets fixed before something goes on the ground that’s supposed to stay on the rail! Never seen a derailment and don’t want to witness one. It would be neat to see just on a ‘wow, that’s different’ level but that’s it.

Been nuts at work - at least the evenings haven’t been as bad. Just wish that “band” practicing the same “song” for the 647th time would find a new place to practice.
Much cooler here - after 1.2" of rain in less than two hours. It was a “gully washer” but didn’t do much damage other than washing some gravel out of the shoulders of a couple of our hilly streets. Haven’t had to mow in two weeks or so. That’ll change soon.
Top brass visiting at work tomorrow, and I have to brief them (however briefly) and do a short tour of my current project. Should be fun…
Finally I can get a question answered I have always wondered about - If you live in an area where you can salmon fish, then where can you go to vacation?
We live in a no mountain, no big bodies of water, no sand, no surf, so when we vacation we can go to Iowa and have a whole change of scenery.
But like living in Hawaii - any place else must be a big disappointment…
After reading first Tree and then Dan - I am going to quietly go back outside and wait for a crowd. Both are just too tempting to stay in here and keep mah big mouf shut… [}:)]
Good Thursday morning, everyone! Very nice, cool and pleasant here this morning. Temp is in the mid 60s, nice little breeze, and lower humidity!
Coffee and hot tea are just about ready. Fresh juice an lemonade and ice tea are made.
On the warmer bar this morning: several different kinds of muffins, sausage, pancakes, waffles, and western omelletes.
Think I’ll get a cup of tea for Mookie, and a cup of coffee for myself, and head outside, and join Mookie, where neither of us has to keep out moufs shut!!
