D&H Boxcars

What ever happened to the D&H “I love NY” Boxcars. I have a picture I took about 18 years ago when they all went through Cobleskill in one train and then I found them lined up in Conklin yard. Does anyone know why?

There were 200 of these cars (reporting marks DHNY, series 50000-50199). They were pretty old when they were rebuilt, so the retirements started almost right away.

Most of the remaining cars were off the roster by 1994. A lot of them went to the Rio Grande Chemical Company (RGCX), but I’m not sure how many have survived–they’re getting up close to the 40-year age limit for use in interchange service.

I saw one last year in Auburn Washington at the BNSF yard. It was in good shape. Not sure who owns it now though could not get that close.
