I will be in Dallas this weekend and am looking for a good hobby shop with a good selection of HO “Stuff”. I will be staying near I-635 and Loop 12.
Thanks in advance.

[#ditto] I used to live in the DFW area and this is the best model railroad shop for HO and N I have ever shopped at anywhere hands down. Go there. They have tons of stuff in stock and carry custom built and painted items by local modelers too.

I agree, Discount Model Trains is a “must” on my all-too-infrequent visits to the DFW area. All I can do is echo the previous posters about DMT’s selection, friendliness, and generous discount.
Somewhat OT, but the Cavanaugh Flight Museum is right in DMT’s neighborhood and is also worth a visit: http://www.cavanaughflightmuseum.com/index.htm

I was going to recommend Discount Model Trains…but they already did. We do have a couple other hobby shops but if you have time to visit only one that would be the one! (so you really can skip the others) I live Downtown so it is quite a drive for me, but worth it.
I agree with all of the above. I’ve visited Dallas several times in the last ten years. I always find something at that hobby shop that I liked. I would always spend one of two hours there. They used to only be open on a few days Friday-Sat (I think), but the last time I was there, they were opend a lot more. Check the yellow pages, give them a call and also get the address of any others. Walter in Columbia, Tn
Thanks everyone, I saw their add in the back of MRR.
Stevert…I’ve been to the cavanaugh flight museum so I am familiar with the area, it’s not to far from my sister’s house if I remember right.
Again, thanks everyone for the info…that’s why this forum is the best!

OK back from Dallas and I was able to make it to Discount Model Trains. I must say they have a great selection. I was in the detail parts section for almost an hour alone! I was able to find a few items I have been searching for quite some time.
The only disappointment was they didn’t have any Athearn Blue Box kits or MDC kits. I asked the folks working there and they said the sold out of them long ago.
Thanks to everyone that helped me out.

Glad you had a good trip and a productive model shopping experience.

nice to hear u had a great time at that shop in Texas. I was also dissappointed in the lack of availablity in Athearn trains all around. Horizon I am finding out from all but one LHS is making it so that noone wants to carry Athearn anything. —Dealers that only have websites and go to train shows are completely shut out from selling Athearn.
From now on I will only buy Atlas, Kato, Stewart and if they run as well as those Broadway Limited. I just looking into repowering my Athearn and the Mashima kit is $40 per diesel. I have over 20 Athearn. This will take a long time.
