Ok, so it may not look like much, but my layout construction has reached a watershed event. After months of maddening inactivity (I’ve griped about that before) and getting over the loud-saw-waking-the-baby hump, the benchwork is finally finished.
The actual work was neither particularly complicated or even that time-consuming. But progress is just so slow when you’re limited to a hour or so in the evenings - that precious window of time between the kids going to bed and running out of gas youself.
All that remains is to sand a few rough edges, then a pass with the shop vac, and I’m ready to lay roadbed until the supply runs out.
There are two grades, both at 2.5% to give a 4" elevation difference. Operationally, it’s a dual-purpose design. I can put two trains in continuous running and just sit back and railfan, or consider the two ends of the yard as separate destinations and, using the double crossover, run it as a single-line point-to-point. In that mode there are six industries to service, but only three would be trailing-point switching moves in either direction, providing some operating interest.
The TV is just out of sight in the pictures. It was on my list of must-haves. As for the unnamed liquid in the glass, I have no clear recollection of what that was. Maybe the guys in the Beer Barn could help me with that one…
Hi, well you’ve got further than me in the last 12 months I’ve just retired from the RAF and have less time now than when I worked? Im just finishing off the lining and isulation of my model railroad building, got the electrician coming next month. Keep up the good work
