I’ve included 3 pics here of my latest locomotive painting and decaling projects. These 2 loco’s will be the cornerstone of my “Driline” layout. It depicts the Quad Cities (Davenport,Bettendorf,RockIsland,Moline & East Moline) circa 1995.This was a short line railroad that served both the Soo and BN at this time. It has now been disbanded after 103 years.
They are Proto 2000 SW9 loco’s with NCE decoders installed. I also included working strobes that look really cool. I used 1.2mm lamp inserted into the “Details Associate” lens. (I just hope I never have to change the bulb). I wanted to add sound, but there just isn’t any room. I know LL makes another SW9/1200 with sound, but they use rubber traction tires. Not my thing.
Wow I am having flashbacks!! Very cool Dri, I had a buddy who was on the section there in Bettendorf, and I have worked the old Dri ( now BNSF) Clinton yard and I also remember seeing those little EMD’s switching out Deere when I drove a truck local.
Keep us posted I would love to see more as you get going. See you at the train show this coming weekend ( might be going saturday)
Yup, I’ll be there. I just have a simple 11X7 around the room shelf layout basically to just run what trains I have. I’ll be able to do a little scenery on it though. Here’s a couple of recent pics of the layout.I’m having fun with my NCE DCC controller.
Dont feel bad about not a lot of space, I might have a bit more room but not by much lol. I love the old DRI line sign. Supposedly there were some in the Bettendorf office but I think they all got lifted except for the one onm the door where we refresh our hammerhead computers.
My Father in laws brothers father in law ( yeah I know it sounds cliche but …) retired from the DRI as an engineer. Only met him once cause he said when he retired he was just going to sit around in his pj’s and he is doing just that.
Well, I’ve got lots more space but refuse to build a layout there, as I like an open rec room for the kids to play in. I got the sign from Buzz at Midwest Trains. Your in-law’s last name wouldn’t be Schleusner would it? He was an engineer for the Dri-line and lives in Bettendorf. I graduated Highschool with is son Steve. I don’t know him personally though.
