David Barrow’s Cat Mountain & Santa Fe track plans

Continuing the discussion from MRVP Video Vault - Layout Tour: David Barrow's HO scale Cat Mountain & Santa Fe:

Does anyone know where to find information on David Barrow Jr.'s layout that existed in 1976? I worked on it and operated it for a bit before moving to Kansas City in 1977.

I remember this layout in west Austin. But I was in Austin in 1981-83. Was that a different layout? I might have some pics of the 80s railroad.

From memory, the first time his layout was featured in MR covered passenger operations on the Cat Mountain, and featured the first version of his railroad. He expanded the railroad room, and advanced the time line to late 70s/early 80s. I was lucky enough to see this railroad a couple of times. I believe it was also featured in MR.

If you have access to the MR online index, you might be able to find the articles. Good luck.

The Cat Mountain I remember was in a giant new house in the hills of west Austin. In the early 80s.

I have an account with Model Railroader, and can see the archives (I think). But where is the index?

Thanks!
Randy

It is to laugh.

Lack of any meaningful index from Kalmbach was a running joke right up to the Firecrown takeover. I doubt there is one from Firecrown yet.

We’ve had threads here that mentioned at least two third-party indices (which may both have disappeared from easy current Internet access but might be in the Wayback Machine somewhere).

My memory failed me…. I’m a real estate appraiser in central Texas. I thought David’s house was new in the early 80s. He built the home (on Cat Mountain) in 1972. Tax records show he still lives there.

This index still works and is the most useful thing I have found when looking for old articles.
