i have solar system charging 12 volt batterys, how can run my trains off a 12 volt battery.

I imagine that you could use a standard DC walkaround-type controller, like that which comes with the MRC Controlmaster 20. This feeds the power (12 volts) through the controller, then to the rails. I think that you’d need to put some sort of overload protection into the line before it goes to the handheld unit, as your batteries probably have enough amperage available to melt a locomotive in the event something goes wrong.

Yes, in high school I had an N-scale layout that I carried around in my car. It plugged it into the cigarette lighter for power.
