DCC Programming: Episode 2 - consisting
Great video Dana! Looking forward to speed matching
Dana, THANK YOU for this video. I am still fairly new to DCC and have been using Universal consisting only and have had the “bugs” you mentioned. Now I can spend the winter learning about Advanced consisting and getting units programmed. This will be a real asset for F-units that always run as a set, or for passenger units that were bought to work as a set. That should simplify my operations quite a bit!
Dane, this is “right on.” As a new-to-DCC member, I really appreciate your clear descriptions and instruction. Thanks a bunch!
Thanks, I need all the help I can get.
Great job explaining consisting locos.
excellent thank you. i am looking forward to the others in the series.
Very informative - I finally actually understand the difference between “universal” and “advanced” consisting; they are the same thing only different!
To better demonstrate what you are talking about, may I suggest that you run the locomotives separated from each other. Universal consist them then run them “elephant” and they both move the same way; keep the universal consist and turn 5056 around physically (tail to tail)- they still run at the same time, but they move away from each other (in fwd.)
Really enjoying this series. For years I have mostly shot from the hip when it comes to DCC and it’s great to learn more about it. Looking forward to more videos. Thanks!
Thanks for the video! I wondered how it would be possible to do that
I noticed you were using the Digitrax command station then changed to the MRC DCC controller… Would the same method work using Digitrax system for consisting using CV19 ?
Great job Dana. I’ve had to read/re-read my Digitrax handbook and was finally able to run a four unit ICG lashup. Now I understand this complicated subject a little better, but I still have much to learn. Look forward to future videos!
awesome video. But how does one do the same with a Zephyer?
Thank you for a very helpful video.
Please consider having a video showing how to adv consisting with Digitrax and NCE.
Having a DCC Programming series is a great idea.
Dana, how is it that you manage to explain all of these ideas in such a clear and lucid fashion. I have never attempted consisting because I just knew it would be problematic. However, based on your demo it is really a simple thing. I can’t wait for you to show me how to Speed Match my locos then I’ll be really ready. Thanks for another great video.
Super, these artricles are REALLY HELPFUL!!!
Thanks
Great video, really helpful topic explaining the difference between the types of consisting. I’ll be putting this into practice today. I can’t wait for your future videos.
Dana, another great video on DCC programming. Does the NCE system support Universal consisting? With my Digitrax system, I can program one engine number into my left throttle, another number into my right throttle, press the mode button until the dot appears under the MU label then press select. Now both locomotives will respond to the input from my right throttle, Digitrax calls this Universal consisting. To add more locomotives to the consist, you just add their number to the left throttle and repeat the above instructions. I find this very handy for on the fly consisting, plus the consists will always be the lead unit number. No need to remember separate numbers.
Dana,
I appreciate the layout of the presentation of the information. This series has helped in my understanding of the principles. Also thanks for including the detailed information on how it is working in the case that we have problems.
Dana
I have really enjoyed the 2 videos of consisting. You have revealed one of the mysteries of DCC in an understandable manner. I’m hoping it will help solve a friend’s challenges with moving consisted locos from his layout to our club layout. Just a note on old consists, I have 2 MTH Mikados which I purchased March 2011 and the manual says they can only be consisted using the old consist method.
