decaling

I recall reading about using-I think the product was “future”-for decaling. Does anyone know about this and how does it work; as well as proceedures?

Future floor polish is an acrylic gloss clear coat. It’s used for floors to give them a shine.

It’s used in modeling to provide a gloss finish prior to decaling. Decals go on better to a gloss surface vs a matte/flat one. The gloss promotes better adhesion and reduces/eliminates silvering and seeing the decal carrier film. (it’s really visible when you apply a decal on a flat/matte finish).

You can also give the model a coat of future after decaling to seal the decals then do your oil washes/weathering. Then apply your final flat or semi-flat clear.

You can brush or spray with an air brush. Just apply it in a few thin coats. Windex with ammonia is used to clean things up (brush, airbrush) since ammonia dissolves the Future.

A single bottle will last you a long time. I’ve been using future for years in my model building.

All the info you will need is here http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html. Scale model builders have been using it for years.

Does work wonders and Lateral G sums it up. I esspecially like to use it for simple spoting decaling such as No boards, pass lettering No changes. A couple thin coats @ the area is all you need. Don’t need to worry about variations in gloss finish the decals need to be coated w/ an overall clear of your choice anyway.

exactly right…I use the same technique on armor models where you only have just a few decals…
