i’am trying on modeling the florida east coast (fec) between their 1935-1945’s. for doing so i’ll have to redecal some locos, which is no problem, because there are decals available for almost any fec period. the problem is relettering the freight cars with their appropriate numbers. i’ve yet found no commercial decals for relettering for example a simple 40’ boxcar. for boxcars i would prefer the “speedway to america’s playgrounds” lettering, of course but thats another story. i’d already be glad to have any fitting decals.
has any of you had some similar problems? i would be also willing to make the decals myself but for that i would have to know the form or type name of letters the fec used that days so i could download them on my pc and print them my own. yet another thing is- as i know most of these freight car lettering was done in white- so thats nothing my printer could do.
The forum bans “advertising.” However, that’s generally interpreted as blanket business announcements or product ads, done by the business itself or a surrogate.
If you have located a business that has a specific, well-defined product which might be of interest to other modellers, the moderators have always allowed posts of that nature.
As an example, there was a post a few days ago asking about subway trains. I provided not only the name of a dealer that has them, but also the web address and a suggested entry into their “Search” box to find them. This sort of thing is simply sharing information. It’s not considered advertising, so I’m sure it’s OK to post your FEC find for others who might be interested.
But, what I want to see is pictures of the cars when you’re done, OK?
I don’t see a lot of FEC cars but became interested in this line when I chased a train out of Jacksonville while visiting a friend last year. I saw an FEC marked intermodal car in a hobby store I go to and didn’t have the money so I vowed to return the following week and grab it. Needless to say it was gone, though everything that was around it the week before was still there. In the interest of keeping this post civil, I’ll just say I wasn’t happy.
but perhaps if you find a different intermodal which you are willing to renumber, here are the websites i found. maybe that you already know them, yet for me they where new:
The upper one is “champion decals”. very nice including online catalogue and tips for decaling if they don’t have the appropriate car of the company you are looking for.
the lower website seems especially for O scalers. but you can download a pdf of the decals they use for the shown cars so you can make your own ones. very nice.
has anyone of you already used one of those decals and present some results?
champ decals has been around forever and the quality is good. I am sure others will chime in with their opinions as well. I did not see who was making the FEC decals on the Great Decals site so I can not comment on them.
