Decoder For PCM HO Y6

Folks, I purchased a straight-DC HO Y6 steam loco from PCM last summer (GREAT model BTW). Having decided recently to take the leap into DCC, I’m about to install a decoder (no sound, just a plain-Jane decoder). The tender has an 8-pin plug. Called the guys at PCM and they told me that there is no need to install a dropping resistor even though they use LEDs for the lights.

Just seems too good to be true. Don’t want to burn out the bulbs - but really don’t want to install a dropping resistor and then have to uninstall it, either. Has anybody put a decoder in one of these?

Hi,

I own two Y6b’s, but unfortunately they came with DCC and sound. But I do own a lot of other PCM and BLI engines and NONE of them have required anything but just a simple decoder. That should be the meaning on DCC ready if you ask me.

So if I where you I would try with just the decoder. If BLI says so they are usually right. And as I said, none of my engines have required a resistor. Let us know how it turns out.

Magnus

Thanks, Magnus. I will give it a try.
