Anyone have any idea what decoder would be used to replace this PC board? I know I could pretty much use anything but wanted to take advantage of the mounting bosses cast right into the frame.
If memory serves me correct it’s one of the locomotives sold by MRC a while back. They run surprisingly well and for the $20 I spent I can’t complain.
Easiest thing would be something like a TCS T-1, hard wire it, and tape it to the top of the circiut board to keep the wires out of the drive train. None of the board form factor decoders are shaped exactly liek that, and the Athearn/Atlas ones are a lot longer but narrower.
I just sucessfully completed a similar job in a P1K F3 and the easiest way is to just replace the board and hardwire with either a Digitrax DH163D or, if you want sound, a Tsunami TSU-1000 for 1st generation EMD 567 diesel. As with so many skills learned in this hobby, the first one is the hardest! John
