I recently ordered a Minitrix (i.e. Trix N scale) digital ready locomotive. It’s the Metronom train - item#T11609. The description says - "The locomotive comes with a digital connector and a 5-pole can motor with a flywheel. 4 axles powered. 2 traction tires. " Does anyone know what kind of decoder will fit this loco so that it runs on a Prodigy Advance system? Do I have to use a selectrix decoder or will one of the standard Digitrax or NCE decoders fit this loco? Has anyone done a decoder installation for this loco? If so, is it straightforward? I would appreciate any advice people have on this matter.
I don’t have N scale but have seen some HO scale products from Germany that have a much different decoder socket than used in the U.S. Until you get the locomotive and can open it up to see how much room is available for a decoder and the type of socket it has, my advice would be to hold off on ordering a decoder. The statement in the description that it is “digital ready” is meaningless in determining which decoder to purchase…
I believe the “digital connector” that Minitrix locomotives comes with is the 6 Pin NEM 651. If so, the Digitrax DZ125IN, the TCS EUN651, and the Lenz Gold Mini D should all work.
Thanks very much for your help CSX Robert. I got the TCS EUN651 and that worked great!
