Delaware & Hudson ‘heritage’ GP38-2 repainted

I’ve actually seen these D&H locos once or twice in the last decade.

Boo hiss! Come on CP, would it have been that expensive or difficult to repaint it in the D&H lightning stripe scheme that it wore? Show a little respect and a nod to the railroads that were there before you.

HERITAGE?! E.H.H. Said Steam is Crap. we won’t see any real heritage from his locomotive fleet. Hell, I’ll be amazed if they begin to clean their fleet.

I know it cost the railroads a bunch of cash to paint and repaint, but it would be nice to see heritage colors from all the major railroads live again.

Booooooooo!

The new CP paint is beautiful. Red is my favourite colour.

The CP paint is sharp, but it’s always a shame to see the old railroads’ paint schemes go. I’ll hate it when they start repainting the IC&E/DM&E units.

For those of us that knew the fine gentleman that the 7312 was named for, this is more than the loss of a cool paint scheme, it’s losing the reminder of a great railroader and teacher.

At least they’ve done away with the horrible “Multimark” logo, but the solid red paint needs something to add a little interest. Let’s hope we don’t see “Canadian Pacific Quality” painted on the sides or noses of their locomotives.

CP should consider this and keep heritage units it is a great idea for all railroads.

As if it would have been such a tremendous drain on the corporate nest egg to keep (oh hell, all three!) in the old paint. CP shows what a class act that they are (not).

Hey Walt, where’s the beaver?

Get your shots of those D&H Geeps. With CP’s current management team they won’t be in their original colours for much longer.

Happy a Class 1 RR is maintaining and keeping a 42 year old 4 axel loco in service in 2014.

Bruce, I believe every single Class I freight road in the US and Canada still have large fleets of GP38-2s in service…at least I know CSX does, for sure!

Hunter Harrison has no soul at all. Scrapping every caboose on the railroad, I get that, but jeez, one of the prettiest 4-6-4’s anywhere now sits in the shop partially stripped (and it even burns diesel oil), and now a D&H unit gets red paint which will only get dirty. Or am I just an old sentimentalist?

Sad to see “Champlain Blue” disappear. I grew up a block from the Delanson branch and until the mid 60’s I thought all 'engine" were blue & grey and had round bodies. 125 RS2/3 can’t be bad.
I agree it would be nice to keep a heritage paint scheme even if it is on something other then an Alco.
