Detail a contemporary lumberyard
What a beautiful model, and a very helpful article. Please can you follow this up with an article, either here or in the MR magazine, on detailing a sawmill. Turn of the century and modern please.
Most importantly though is where we can obtain the detail parts for these as they seem to be very hard to locate (unless you wealthy enough to afford Sierra West products!).
thank you for help with yr point on model timber yard.
Well done, lots to see and it makes it all come alive.
@Keith: A sawmill is one of the industries documented in Jeff Wilson’s next book, Industries Along the Tracks 4.
@Richard: There have been quite a few articles on this. Kamlbach even publishes a book on the subject, though the Diesel section is only about 20% of the book.
I am in the process of constructing a new layout that will include a lumber transloading facility and distribution warehouse. Your article has given me several great ideas and I’m most thankful that you fellows are willing to share your expertise and skills with the rest of us.
Next can we look at diesel engine servicing facilities in a future segment in model railroader? I’m headed that way myself.
Thanks and keep your eyes on the tracks ahead.
This is just what I needed, as I am about to add a lumber yard to my layout. Thanks for the article.
I am looking at a lumber yard for my layout. I have already purchased a Cornerstone HO scale kit, Walton & Sons Lumber Co. and plan to utilize some of the ideas in this article to add to my layout. It was a very good and informative article. I am trying to stay in the early years up to about 1970.
This topic has given me has given me some great ideas for the layout I’m planning .
Bless You! I just finished the Walthers N-scale Lumber yard kit and needed some ideas on building/track placement as well as proper detailing. Thanks for the help.
I’ve got a lumber yard on my n-scale layout and was trying to think of everything you would find around a lumberyard. This is just what I needed. Thanks.
Me gusta su articulo por la cantidad de detalles que aporta.
Very interesting. I enjoy the details. Will get to work on my setup soon.
Excellent article. It gave me ideas for a '50/'60’s era lumber yard I have been contemplating.

You hit the nail on the head. The right article at just the right
time .I was at a lost on where to go next.THANKS.
I get alot of ideas and projects from these. Thanks for all the help!
Kits & Large details have changed alot in last 20-30 years. BUT the small to smallest details haven’t , And it’s the modeler that makes IT!!! Job well done ,Looks great
I like that you are recycling models for your club layout. Even though the model builder is gone his art lives on to be seen again and inspire others.
Thanks!!
Thanks for the tips, i have just finished a timber yard on my HO EREHWON RAILROAD [NOWHERE spelt backwards], and needed a few ideas to finish it. Also agree with KEITH WEBB how about a sawmill? got to get the wood from somewhere
