Die Cast 675 Loco Glue/Adhesive Repair Question

Weirdest thing: My 675 is traveling fine and the cast iron part below the back of the cab that surrounds the clip for attachment to the tender falls right off the train. It was a clean break so it should be able to be reattached, but what do I use to reattach it? Super glue? Other epoxy? Any ideas? Help.

J-B Weld Epoxy is probably your best bet.

24 hr epoxy, clamped for 12-24 hrs., should do the trick.

I’ll second that

I bought a 2037 shell with almost the exact same problem. Onle one side was broken, and pulled away from the shell’s lower cab.I used super glue and some clamps to make the repair. It’s been over a year now and no sign of it letting go. Since yours broke completely off, you won’t have that springy tension effect, and the glue will not have any trouble holding the parts together.

PS - the shells are made of die cast metal, not cast iron. [;)]

Glueing it is the fastest, easiest way of doing it. Put I remember reading in one of the magazines that a guy repaired the piece by drilling and tapping the shell and used screws to attach it to the shell.

I know a guy that can take Prewar and Post War diecast engines, remove bent and damaged parts and replace them with good sections [such as cabs, boilers and etc] and he uses super glue. They stay and you can’t tell it. I had to see it to believe it.

I used the J-B Weld several hours ago and the early indications are positive. I’ll provide an update tomorrow after 24 hours have passed. I may need to do a litle repair area touch up with a sharpie. Fortunately, my injured loco was in a relatively inconspicuous location.

J-B Weld operation was a success. The patient is restored to one piece…I didn’t align everything perfectly, but it’s all but as good as new. Of course, now the headlight won’t work so I’m just hoping that it’s a coincidence and the bulb just died. Otherwise, I fear that I may have done collateral damage during the operation. In any event, J-B Weld is a great product for this kind of repair.
