diesel locomotives without the engine?

I have been wanting to model a diesel locomotive with it’s engine removed (I.E. for an engine overhaul)for some time now, and I havn’t found many helpful photos (besides the obvious photos telling the engine as being missing) I found some photographs in another railroad magaziene showing an SDP 45 in the exact way I want my model to be like, but the immages are not the most helpful since they show the rear of the locomotive casting a bad shadow from the rear of the flared radiator housing on the machinery for the radiator, air compressor, and what looks to be a genorator (or some oil filtering systems).

Can anyone help?

The only requirements I have are as follows:

  1. the picture must be of a diesel locomotive

2. only the main engine should be removed (other hardware that is mounted to the engine doesn’t need to be shown, but anything else mounted to the floor of the engine compartment and is normaly not removed for engine removal would be prefered to be left in place.)

  1. Although not required, up-close detail shots and/or a photo or two of the floor of the engine compartment would be helpful.

This is my first time posting a new subject for any forum, so I hope someone can come through for me, and I look foward to seeing the photos this may bring.

I have also thought of one source that may also be helpful. I doubt if they would be open for acess to the public, but if anyone knows where to get scale drawings of locomotives that show interior detail or scale drawings of the engines and/or other hardware would also be helpful. Also, if you happen to have some photos of at least the service pannels open (I.E. for routine maintnance or for engine start-up) those would be helpful too. Since it is extremely rare to even fi

I am not sure this meets your requirements but scroll down in the photos on this website. Independent Locomotive Service in Bethel MN is a great place to see the explosed innards of locomotives.

Not much to see here, although this was a complete re-build of the locomotive:

Beat me to it, I just picked up my copy and when I saw that I thought of this thread. Pretty much exactly what was asked for.

Well, accualy I saw the March RMC photos about 1-week ago, and, even though it answered some questions, it left me with many more. As I mentioned in my original posting, the rear of the radiator housing was casting a good-sized shadow over the machinery in the back, which is why I posted my request in the first place. Thank you for keeping my request in mind though.

On the other hand, some good news is that I have sort of an idea as to the machinery in the locomotive: in an older issue of Model Railroader, I found a diagram of an early Geep (GP-9?) that showed the machinery in question, but I still have no clue of the extent of the wethering or of the engine compartment’s floor, or of where hoses and wiring ran throughout the locomotive.
