Diesel Locomotives

Some years back MR had an article about all the diesel locomotives made to that time. It was done as a chart/graph and showed how many of each of the locos were made, the years the were made and how long they were in service.
Does anyone remember seeing it?
Does anyone remember the issue?
Is the issue available still or a reprint?

Thanks in advance,

Doug

Doug,

Can’t help you on the article but I can give you a couple of nifty web sites:

The Diesel Shop: http://www.thedieselshop.us

Yard Limit: http://yardlimit.railfan.net

Diesel Shop contains diesel rosters from the various RR’s. (You can probably just do the math by finding the earilest and latest built dates of the locomotives you’re interested in.) Yard Limit has the kind of info you are looking for but it’s limited to yard switchers.

Hope that’s a help…

Tom

If its the one I am thinking of, it was a couple of years ago, bur didn’t include quite everything. It was broken down into scale. I’m sure the issue is sitting around my room someplace.

Kalmback has some diesel spotter books, and I think they are coming out with a special edition mag called Diesel Victory? I plan on getting it. I vaguely remember the article you are talking about.

I think it was called"Diesel Rounup" and I have a copy sitting around in my basement.
Probably four years + back

MR June 2000, HO Diesel roundup.
The chart is broken down by prototype manufacturer, the number of prototype locos
sold and the years produced.

Also shows models that are currently in production or have been made in recent years.

I have a copy if you want to send me your mailing address.

It’s time for an up-dated version.

Here’s another bit of info.

Thanks for the replies so far. I guess I wasn’t clear enough in my description. The article I referred to was a 1:1 article on the real locomotives. It might have been done by a staff writer and it would be about 15 to 20 years ago.

Thanks,

Doug
