diesel tsunami

In a Loy’s Toy’s ad in this months craftsman it was mentioned that by the time the ad was read, the diesel version of the tsunami would be shipping.Has anyone gotten any information? I could’nt find anything on the soundtraxx web site or the TTX site

There was a post on one of the DCC dealers’ sites (Litchfield Station, I think) in January saying the diesels would probably be shipping within a few days.

If the past is any guide, nobody from Sountraxx is talking; nobody anywhere else actually knows anything – but there are lots of rumors and speculation. When they’re about to ship, they’ll make an announcement, just like they did with the steam line.

I wi***hey’d give a hint, but to me, far worse is the BLI/QSI/SoundsLikeTrains/AHS upgrade, which we’ve been hearing is “soon” for how many months? They even advertised in the April MRR (thought it was the April Fool’s joke for a while), and I got a flyer from Tony’s the other day. But can you actually get one? Nooooooooooo.

The schedule might have changed, but last month Soundtraxx emailed me this information about the diesel version.

Thanks for the interest in our products. At this time we are projecting the diesel versions of Tsunami to be out sometime about mid-summer.

Schedules can change, but this was from Soundtraxx.

You can email them anytime and ask. That is what I did.

Hopefully they will fix all the packet timing issues with the next batch. Apparently they know about the problems with the Tsunami, I just hope they get them fixed before releasing the diesel version. It cost me almost $300 and many hours of my time to figure out they wouldn’t work with the CVP Airwire system… [:(!]

Hi Jeff

Can you please elaborate on the probelm you found with the tsunami?

Thanks
Greg Ross

It may be frustrating for customers, but it’s good to know that Soundtraxx is committed on “getting it right” rather than releasing a much anticipated product that already has annoying bugs attached to it. (like some of the Athearn six axle Genesis units)

I’m looking forward to hearing K5LA horns with reverb as well as turbochargers from EMD 645 series diesels.

I hpe Jeff will descibe the problems he found and I will list some problems that I found also. They are varied and are not easy to understand if you are not using one in a particular engine.

I received three of the first heavy steam Tsunami’s and installed one in a Genesis Challenger replacing the Mickey Mouse sound that was in the engine.

I will describe one of the problems that I overcame after spending much time involved with the programming. Soundtrax did call me back three times with tips, but they did not have a clue either.
The Tsunami has 214CV’s that are listed, but a few more that they will talk to you about in certain cases.
My situation was the Genesis motor feed back would chuff correctly using the two cylinder mode, but when you selected the articulated chuffs to simulate the four cylinders running in and out of sync, it would only chuff twice per rev of the drivers. Soundtraxx was very positive saying they thought it would work, but could not describe how to make it work.
The normal CV that varied the chuffs per rev was maxed out at almost three chuffs, but it would go beyond four chuffs for the two cylinder mode.
When I talked to the engineer, more than once, I discovered that this feature has not been tested to any degree in the lab, just the fact it would double chuff.

I tried this same problem on a Key model and the double chuffs worked with very little changes to the CV’s. The feedback from the motor seems to be the limiting factor for the differences. I did get it to work by engaging the back EMF mode, but it is tricky to say the least.

One of the other problems is the Big Boy whistle sound. It is barely audible which the other five are loud and clear. I have resorted to u
