Digitrax Computer Interface

Engineer Jeff…

I do apologize for my post…I didn’t realize you could download sounds, but do realize it’s with the Digitrax deocder’s only now, but you can still adjust cv’s for other sound decoders with the 2 programs. LOL sometimes I’m glad I make mistakes… or… well… learning experiences. I’m just learning about all this though. I have been running my trains with the Bachmann EZ Command for 4 years. I am so impressed with Digitrax, I may very well go ahead and go that route. I always thought that adjusting or changing cv’s was too complicated…boy was I wrong and how much better you can tweek the loco’s. See that at 65 I can still learn and don’t have to reinvent the wheel, and thanks to those like yourself with much more experience! I try not to lead anybody in a wrong direction and post only my experience.

I am the other way. I buy it and then figure out how it works [8D] In my case I bought the PR3 for downloading sound files to Digitrax sound decoders. Because I already had the Locobuffer II adapter I didn’t think I would use the PR3 for anything else. Once I realized I could program ecoders with the PR3 on my bench and never have to touch my layout, the PR3 now sits on my bench and I do 90%+ of my programming there with the PR3 and JMRI. I store all of my configurations with JMRI so that if a unit ever loses its programming (or someone I know screws it up badly), I can easily restore it to original working order.

Jim, I did not get your PM for some reason. If you retire your E-Z get the Super Empire Builder, as I told you on the phone the DT 400 hand held throttle is kick caboose. Down side to the SEB is you can only control F functions to 8 I think. But, with Loco net hooked to the PR 3 you can control all the F functions a decoder has.

Guess I will not be getting and checks from Bachmann anytime soon! [:D]

I still think the Bachmann E-Z is a great way to get started, add in a PR 3 and the system will do 85% of what most folks want to do.

Jim, PM me again and tell me the best time to call you Monday.

Your friend Ken

I have a Digitrax system DCS200 which I have hooked up to my laptop which is running the TrainController Bronze software. The problem is that it is not working. I have tried the acclaimed PR3 to connect it with a USB…I have tried the MS100 with an adapter to USB, but my laptop does not have a serial port. When I check the device manager on the computer all of the drivers and ports seem to be installed properly and there seems to be some bit exchange between the computer and Digitrax, but I am not able to run trains.

Has anyone had this problem with Digitrax and this software program? What am I doing wrong? I have called tech support for both and there has been no resolution.

Any advice is much appreciated.

You have to follow EXACTLY the instructions for installing the drivers for the PR3. You might want to go into Device Manager and remove ALL references to the PR3 or virtual serial ports and start over.

Also, the PR3 can operate in two modes. One emulatrs the MS100 and allows you co control your DCS, the other is standalone program mode. If the PR3 is in standalone program mode, it won’t communicate to the DCS.

Finally, try a different USB cable with the PR3, there have been reports of the included cable being bad out of the box.
