Had this package left over from a wood project
If you glue 2 of them together and add alittle stain
you get a not too bad looking whiskey barrel
measures 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 HO scale feet

Nice!
Now all you need is the appropriate decals. “Jim Beam,” “Jack Daniels” and “Seagram’s” come immediately to mind.
If smaller (5mm?) size are available, some aluminum paint would make instant kegs for the rest of the Beer Barn’s clientele. Think I’ll scoot over there and tell them.

Terry,
What lumber company was your source? You know, flour, beans, grains, metal products (screws, bolts, nails, etc) and numerous other things were shipped in wooden barrels. In the '50s, lumber yards still got nails, screws, and bolts in small kegs. I bought many a sack of nails out of kegs. This has a lot of possibilities for those who model 1955 and earlier.
Thanks for the tip! John T. in the dry cow pasture
Here’s a possible source…100 pieces for $2.99 is pretty cheap.

John T.,
Glad I could help out! Where in this great cow pasture known as Texas do you hang your hat?

Cool idea…
John
I’m glad Don came up with a source because i don’t remember where i bought them
I’ve had them for 15 years
If i had to guess i’d say Home Depot
I stumbled on to the idea today quite by accident because i was looking for something in my tool box and spilled the bag by accident
I hurriedly picked them up and stacked them on the layout to keep my herd of cocker spaniels from getting them
When i went back to pick them up I noticed 2 of them stacked together looked like a barrel
WELL HELLO ![:O]
