Good Morning. I’m a fastrack user and was wondering if anybody has experience with the track clips. Do they work, improve connections? Advice? Thanks, Neal
While I don’t know about Fastrack, track clips definitely work well for tubular track. I can presume that some advantages could be gained with Fastrack as well.
I bought a bag of track clips not made by lionel. Shortly after installing them I noticed when moving the track one day the clips must have fatigued over the short time they were installed, and were sliding right off. They were blue color clips.
My husband used them for a Christmas (under the tree) display and they worked well. However, be aware that when you take the track apart, they have a tendency to fly off. It’s not a big deal, but you likely will be picking up pieces in random places (or lose some).
I have changed my Fastrack layout so many times over the years a lot of the tabs have broken. I use binder clips to hold the track together. I do not fasten the track down. It sits on top of indoor/outdoor carpet.
I bought a bag of gray colored clips on eBay. They fit tight on my older fastrack , but fall off my new fastrack. It’s not the fault of the clips, fastrack was apparently manufactured to different tolerances over the years.
I have one O gauge layout suspended from the ceiling, so the clips help!
While using clips will hold the track together they have minimum improvement in electrical conductivity. FasTrack depends on the friction contact between the pins to transfer power between tracks. Sometimes a small bend in the pins so they make better contact improves the connection. Also, if you have a larger layout you should be adding supplemental power connections to the more distant track sections.
