You’re at a hobby shop or you receive a new order in the mail?[:D]
I know I sure do. My parents just don’t understand it.

It’s kind of hard to explain to one’s wife why a supposedly grown man would act that way. So I don’t.

Tell your parents that you know a close to 70-year old on this website that goes into drooling fits when he finds something new and exciting at the LHS, and even goes into paroxysms of unbridled joy when he recieves that new brass loco he ordered from a certain consignment shop in Denver, CO.
Age doesn’t matter. All men are prone to turning into ‘instant’ kids when they get a new ‘toy’, no matter what it is. It’s hard-wired into our genetic makeup, thank God! Girls give up their Barbie Dolls around age 11. We males give up our toys–very reluctantly–on our deathbeds.

I had a girlfriend that groaned everytime I went into a hobby shop or got a new item from online. As you might guess, the relationship didn’t last long.
I am now trying to hook up with a girl who works at Hobby Lobby. Maybe she can give me some discounts on some building kits and scenery items.[:-^] Anything is possible.
My parents only get me the things I need (mostly want) at Christmas and on my birthday.
Don’t what? Explain it to her? [swg]
FWIW, no one said it better than George Bernard Shaw: “We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.”
That’s a powerful quote and so true.[bow]
I act like a kid when the trains are running and the lights go dim…
That’s when the “magic” happens![:)]

My wife insists I laugh differently when I am with my best model train/railfan buddy. And she also says she has never seen the same look in my face as when I am at Trainfest each fall. And I was born – well let’s say I am playing the back nine, for sure.

WM:
Yes! BEAUTIFUL! [:P]
And I grin and drool when this one comes around the curve with about 25-30 reefers behind her. Like I said, it’s ‘hard-wired’.

When I got my DCC system and ran my first train with a decoder, I went from 58 years old to about 8.
I felt like a kid at Disney when I walked into the National Train Show a couple of weeks ago.
And I take my MR and my Walthers monthly flyer up to bed with me at night. No, I don’t read it under the covers with a flashlight. Too old for that. But one of these days, I will, just like in the old days.
My sig used to be “Trains - because it’s never too late to have a happy childhood.”
Why not? You’re never too old to do that.[swg]
Blessed are those who behold the world with the eyes of children! [:o)]
I pity the people who think they have to act like “grown-ups” all the time as they miss the best part of life - fun!
Are you kidding, the Mrs thinks my greatest influence in life is Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up!

I get a smile on my face when buying something I’ve wanted, though it’s usually tempered by the concurrent dent in the bank account. [:-^]
But nobody can compete with this kid, in decibels or in pitch:
It relieves STRESS. Actually, one way to relieve stress is to have a hobby. Otherwise you’d see a lot more stressed ol’ goats out here[sigh][:-^]
In this household we have 2 ‘kids’. My wife when she is doing her folk art paintings–and me with my trains-----so there[swg]

That was SO good to see! My wife said that it could just as well have been me. What she means by that? [:-^]
Let’s see then.
Kid/candy shop…Brakie/hobby shop…
Kid/new toy…Brakie/new model…
Yup both fits like a glove.
I still get excited over new models…
Never to old for that…[tup]
Hi!
I’m 65, been playing with trains since the mid-'50s. Whether real or model, trains bring happiness to me, and its been that way since “day one”.
I’m currently building a new layout - my first with DCC and sound. I have to say that just firing up the sound on a loco just makes me smile.
You know, when I was working (financial in oil industry) my trains were my “pacifier”. They truly helped with the stresses of the day and made me feel like the kid I was in the '50s and continue to do so.
And, I am blessed with a wife that encourages my hobby and it doesn’t get better than that!

I also am blessed with a wife that encourages my hobby. When we moved into our new house she offered me the converted garage for my layout instead of the #2 bedroom. I decided on the bedroom so we could have a nice family room. But the offer was important to me which showed her support for my hobby.
Hello you bet when I go to the hobby shop, train show, grade crossing. If I have something coming in the mail forget it. I start looking in the mail box the next day. My wife says she has two kid’s me and are daughter. Life is to short have fun with it Frank
